The flat-out paranoia of the NRA and Wayne LaPierre

Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, gave me a call at home the other day. In the taped message, my friend Wayne warned me that unless I and other patriotic Americans stepped forward to stop it, the dastardly United Nations, with Iran, China, North Korea and other evil countries behind it, would soon come into our country and into our very homes, strip the Second Amendment out of the Constitution and “take away every pistol, and rifle and shotgun” that we owned.

How is the UN going to accomplish this? Are they going to import little bulbous-headed men from Mars toting rayguns to take away our weapons? If so, I’m clinging to my copy of Slim Whitman singing “Indian Love Call” and you can’t have it until you pry it from my cold, dead fingers. Nosireebob.

Since when did the Constitution mean anything to Hillary, Obama, and the rest of the Chicago and Socialist rabble currently running this adminstration. I don’t think the NRA is necessarily being all that paranoid. Too many things are trying to be done in blatant disregard of the Constitution by this administration for a little thing called the Second Amendment to bother them much.

      • Honoria

Could not have said it better myself!!

      • Moose

Don’t be fooled by the progressives on this site. The NRA is our biggest hope in keeping our right to bear arms.

        • Tom C.

I’m with you, Moose. Tom C (NRA Benefactor)

      • Dee

The Constitution does mean a thing to these dumocrats.

    • Gordon

Jay Bookman hasn’t read in it’s entirety what the UN has proposed. In the name
of preventing the spread of arms to terrorists, they say. But tucked away in there is
a requirement for registration of all guns, also an open “what is determined to be
a prohibited weapon”. By who? some GD Politician. Bookman sounds like a
Left wing Marxist Progressive to me.

      • hijinx60

I read the link and comments. Those libs must have never tried to see what Operation Fast and Furious was really about. I am a life member of the NRA, and a concealed carry permit holder. The latter because of the work of the NRA in my state.

      • Norm

I believe Dee left out one word “not” in her reply.

These people either do not know history, or they know it very well and wish to repeat it. I believe it is the second. Way back in history, in England, one of the biggest crimes, after the cross bow was invented was to be in possession of one, as it gave the common man the where with all to get through the armour of the knights. Closer in history, Germany first registered firearms, and then confiscated them, and so on. Most recent, a few years ago Australia did the same thing. The crime rate has soared since. In England, when they were expecting invasion by Germany they asked us to donate guns for their coastal defense. I can still remember the man who came to our farm and asked my father, who told him what he could do with his request. These are just a few examples of the many of what happens when people are disarmed. We are witnessing (unfortunately) a classic example of the old saying, “Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” I don’t believe that Wayne Pierre is paranoid, but worried, obviously, as I and a lot of others are. Life member for more years than I like to think about.

    • Hendrikone

I am all for that!!! but the NRA is doing the right thing of warning us against the gungrabbers!! As far as the UN is concerned: I said get US out of the UN during the Nixon years!!

    • Gerald

      Old Dad,
You seem to conveniently forget how the US government banned some shotguns that were primarily used as turkey hunting guns during one of the assault weapons bans a few years back. If you are determined to stick your middle finger up in the air and waggle it at the Federal government and loudly proclaim that they will get your gun when they pry it from your cold dead hands, some SOB in the Obama Justice department will be more than happy to oblige you, you old fool. The recent debacle Fast & Furious in Texas was simply a program designed to give Obama and Hillary an excuse to further erode our gun ownership rights. Couldn’t happen in America? That’s what they said in Canada about handgun ownership a few years back and you see where that ended don’t you? Australia too. So don’t sit there and type your false bravado and expect any of us to believe you. Going to sue a rep for violating the US Constitution huh? WHen Obama and Hillary types control the supreme court what good will THAT do? Nothing at all!
You will give up your guns when the black shirt, jack booted storm troopers come. Don’t believe in the Boogey Man? Go back and watch tapes on WACO, Texas, when Clinton’s attorney General ordered them into. See how badly that ended for those people who shared your bravado and weren’t willing to give up THEIR guns don’t you old Man? Oh you didn’t recall that the whole Waco episode started when ATF Agents went there to take their guns away? Read up on history Old Man.
The ONLY way you will be allowed to keep your guns is because of the actions of the NRA and the great work they do. You better pray that the NRA doesn’t give up because I can guarantee you if it does, then someone is going to be prying your guns out of your hands soon. You may be dead or you may be alive, it won’t matter but rest assured your guns will be gone Old Man, and there ain’t NOTHING you can do about it. Nothing but support groups like the NRA that is.

      • R. Cook

The Constitution’s @nd Amendment has been under attack since it was written. The following is the true meaning.

James Madison warned us against this.
“Do not separate text from historical background. If you do, you will have perverted and subverted the Constitution, which can only end in a distorted, bastardized form of illegitimate government.”
Here is one of my favorites from James Madison. If only he was around today.
“I was there and this is what we meant.”

Arms, in the context and time when our Constitution was written meant the usual arms carried by militia members or light infantry in the Continental Army. Many of these arms were supplied by their owners and were personal weapons initially used for hunting or home defense. They came in all types and calibers. From a 30 cal. squirrel rifle to a 75 cal. Smooth bore musket and shotguns of all types and gauges. They also included a huge variety of other arms including: knives of every conceivable shape and size, bayonets and swords.
Attempts to control the type and or caliber of arms Americans’ can possess are absolutely against The Constitution and the Second Amendment as it was written and intended. By the supreme law of the land, our Constitution, an American citizen should be able to keep and bear any weapon now used by our light infantry soldiers. If our government or citizens want otherwise, our Founding Fathers wisely allowed a process to amend the original Constitution. They also made it difficult to do so for a very good reason. To guarantee that the change was what the country wanted and not what some special interest group was promoting at a particular time.

I support NRA (lifetime member) however if you or any one else wishes to take my guns please do try. Both the military and government have spent a lot of money to train me. So Gerald you are nothing but a bag of hot wind. Some years ago this same situation was brought up to Bush Sr. he said that you can go ahead and try but this nation is armed and we know how and when to use them.

      • Libertarian

First, the Constitution does not grant us ANY rights, it just defends the ones we already have, therefore, no legislation can legally remove any right. Second, our entire military has been over in the middle east trying to “disarm” an armed populace for years and having little result. Our founders knew that an armed populace cannot be defeated as long as they “choose” to fight. Unless this country has become so weak and brainwashed that it no longer knows or cares about it’s rights, there aren’t enough thugs to get the job done. IMHO

      • Paul Brown

After reading your comments, I have decided you are a fool and I wasted all that time reading nothing. Calling anyone and Old Man, must mean you are a young fool. You think Old comunist George Sorros,(who runs this country), cant pay out several billion to old mercanaries from other countries to keep him safe. When they decide to go door to door, there will be no phones, internet, no paper, television, it is all satilite controlled and they can and will shut this country down. When they come and get mine, I wont be able to call my brothers to come to my aid because all will be shut down. there is a reason I reload and when they come to take mine away, I will try to empty them first. We should just go to Washington and clean up first and this will never happen.

        • catman

Maybe yes, maybe no on the shutting down of everything. BUT, remember this, CB radios are everywhere anad they have a fairly decent range if tuned properly. I have one in both cars and one in my den. Don’t use them much, but they are there if needed. AND, all it will take is a few to start spreading the “word”, and the invaders will see wht the Japs knew during WW2

          • Cricketdragonfly

Are you aware that they government is trying to do away with broadband? The new 800 MHz system gives them the ability to shut down any radio anywhere when ever they want. The government is requirering that all EMS, LE, FD, switch to this system by 2013.

          • Trazzer 17

I wouldn’t bet the bank on c.b. radio being your saviour. Obviously you never lived in a large city or metro type area. Ad you don’t remember what an absolute mess kids made of c.b. with carrier jamming and all kinds of signal interfence intended to stop communication on a media that started out as a great thing. The feds would
take about one day to accomplish the same effect. Other than myself and maybe one other person I can’t think of anybody who even owns one anymore. It’s not like U.N. troops willinvade America. Liberal gungrab organizations have powerful money to lobby their beggary and Obama would have such a treat signed in 2 milliseconds should the senate be dumb enough to ratify it.

      • maddie

That will work only so long as our military forces are not ALL deployed overseas in another stupid action that has nothing to do with defending America. Otherwise, I agree.

      • JimW

Why do you think that Mr. Obama wants “a civilian force just as well armed and equiped as the military”? Why do you think Mr. Obama and his lacky Napolitano have classified all military returning from the mid east as potential terrorist. Why do you think that all of us military veterans and military retirees are classified as potential terrorist. Mr. Obama and his lackies know the military does not support his ambitions for the country.

    • gene

What do we have a bunch of ostriches with their heads buried in the sand?
Why do you thing the UN uses foreign troops to do “peasekeeping mission? Because the have no connection with the population of the country and therefore taking deadly action against that people would not be a problem for those foreign fighters! If we allow the UN to make those rules and our legislators approve of them them then you have an insurection which is justification for intervention! Think about it.

This response by NRA is NOT paranoia, as the UN is trying to come into the back door and remove our Second Amendment RIGHTS unlawfully! And our current administration is supporting the UN in this unlawful cause. Remember, its not paranoia if its TRUE. Every American must stand up for our rights as the loss of one more of our Constitutional rights will surly result in a further erosion of all of our freedoms.

    • Charlotte Juett

The U.N. Small Arms Treaty is a threat to our Second Amendment Rights only if it is ratified by Congress. I think that it would have a hard time passing even in the Senate let alone the House. And if we work hard and acheive a majority in the Senate in 2012, as well as putting a true conservative like Ron Paul into the Presidency, this Treaty will not only never be ratified, but we may be finally able to kick the U.N. out of our country altogether. Without our monetary support the U.N. will fall apart in a couple of years.

      • Observer 1

@Charlotte Juett..Most intelligent thing I’ve read on here today. Lot of big talkers and small thinkers beating their keyboards here today..

100% agree Charlotte, I must say out of all the candidates running Dr. Paul is the ONLY one greatly supported by the troops, both active and retired! His contributions alone = all the other candidates combined. He lives and breathes our Constitution, our rights and freedoms. He has been fighting the government AGAINST trashing our Constitution AND STRIPPING OUR RIGHTS for years! A steadfast staunch defender of the “citizens” of these blessed USA! Our protectors of freedom whether active or retired tell me who they trust. They were willing to die for me, and YOU TOO to keep America secure….so yes, I am definitely for Dr. Ron Paul

And the other issue is: WHY is the US STILL in the UN and WHY is the UN STILL in the US?? We need to leave that 4th world cesspool and kick them out to say, Mogadishu. The UN is only a front for a World Government wannabe organization!

    • Libertarian

A Global Communist organization at that. Every leader of the UN since it’s inception has been an avowed communist.

  • Stephen Ray Hale

I really do not know about you Cowboy. I cannot tell if you are truly liberal or just playing it cynical. HOW the UN is going to pry my guns from my hands? How about you waking up and looking about you at your fellow citizens…especially the D crowd…and realizing that there are THESE UN minions in our country who would LOVE to degun their fellow citizens in this “democracy.” And they might just call on a UN led coalition against the American Citizen as we so do places like Iraq and Vietnam.

    • R. Cook

Hey Cowboy. If you don’t think the UN would get any help; try this on for size.

Here is a direct quote from Sarah Brady of Handgun Control:
“Our main agenda is to have ALL guns banned. We must use whatever means possible. It doesn’t matter if you have to distort facts or even lie. Our task of creating a socialist America can only succeed when those who would resist us have been totally disarmed.” to Senator Howard Metzenbaum – The National Educator, January, 1994, Page 3.

      • R. Cook

In contrast to dear Sarah and in support of the true meaning of the Second Amendment here are a few quotes:
“The very atmosphere of firearms anywhere and everywhere restrains evil interference. They deserve a place of honor with all that is good. When firearms go, all goes. We need them every hour.” – George Washington in address to the 2nd session of united States Congress.

“The right of self-defense is the first law of nature; in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and when the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction.” Henry St. George Tucker, in Blackstone’s 1768 “Commentaries on the Laws of England.”, Judge of the Virginia Supreme Court & U.S. Dist. Court of Virginia

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms…disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes… Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” – Thomas Jefferson, quoting Cesare Beccaria
Those who argue that the Second Amendment was written just for militias are completely blown out of the water by the following quote from Thomas Jefferson.
“The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.” – Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334 (C. J. Boyd, Ed., 1950)
James Madison is credited with the writing of the “Bill of Rights” and was pretty clear about the meaning on the Second Amendment.
“The Constitution preserves the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation where the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms

  • Theo980

    AMEN, JDH!

Today, for the first time, I do not agree with you. The only reason that the 2nd Amendment is still in place and we all still have our guns – legally is because of the power, the numbers and the organizational skill and the flat out guts of Wayne Lapierre and the NRA. The NRA is not paranoid. They are alert and on the job heading of potential threats before they become lethal to our rights as gun owners. I am a proud member of NRA, always will be and each day I thank God that NRA is on our side.

Jake, Woodsville NH. ‘ The live free or die state’

    • Rich

I’m with you, Jake! I have been a life member of the NRA from the ’60’s-and the same crap was being tried. The NRA is NOT paranoid! They are the ‘tip of the spear’ when it comes to stuff like this. Even in the late ’50’s and early ’60’s legislation in the house and the senate was up for arms removal debate. The NRA was the only organization (that I ever heard of, at least) that was doing anything about it. They defeated many bills and incurred losses as well. They have done so much in the last 5 years for us (the American public) in being able to keep and bear arms in almost every state. Concealed carry permits-in almost every state(except Illinois) –Open carry in many more. Now we are pushing for a national concealed carry permit that aligns all the states to the same set of codes. This will further enhance our freedom in interstate travel. Support and join the NRA! If you are a gun owner and NOT a member-join us in our fight to preserve our 2nd amendment freedom and keep us free of a tyrannical government!

  • george taylor

Mrs. Clinton would not be spending her time “working” with the United Nations if she did not know that she would eventually accomplish the Liberal’s goal of complete control of firearms. So, do not underestimate her or any other “progressive” when they let us in on any of their activities.
One way they do this is by entering into a ‘bargaining’ agreement (known as Treatees) whereby the American country will do something in exchange for the Europeans (UN) to do something.

This is very similar to what the Federal Government does to each of the individual states. The states are told (example) that if they do not enforce the use of seat belts, then the feds will not give them road money. IF the states do not teach a certain way or thing, then the education dollars will be cut or eliminated.

So, just as Australia and Canada have outlawed firearms and are reaping the consequences, if we do that, we will also reap the results of those actions.

In otherwords, it does not matter what I or you think, the only thing that matters is what the creator of this universe has said. So, if you want to know the truth, then go to the source. If you find His word, then do it and you will reap the results of your actions.

Just remember what the Greeks said thousands of years ago. If you are not politically active, then you will serve those that are. Go vote and KNOW what they person has done in the past before voting for that person.

  • Deborah

I also do not think the NRA is being paranoid. The sneakiest way the Progressives have is to regulate, regulate, regulate! Then the comment is brought into the discussion about taking away guns(or indeed, any other right we still have) and the dialectic process begins!
We have already lost so many of our freedoms, and, as the best way to control a population of slaves is to take away their arms(read your history…), I agree that indeed there IS a conspiracy afoot!
To understand the Hegelian inspired dialectic process, do a little research on the topic. It will open your eyes as to how the Progressives/Socialists have gotten as far as they have before we, the people, even had an inkling as to what we have lost!

    • Libertarian

In all my reading and writing in posts like this over the years, you’re the first person I have come across that mentioned the “Hegelian Dialectic” other than myself. THANK YOU! Everyone NEEDS to learn about this since it is THE method used by the Marxists to divide and conquer US. Everyone please Google ‘What is the Hegelian Dialectic’ to see how it’s being done.

  • Martaan

It wasn’t done by the UN, but England & Australia have been disarmed. I realize this column was written by a liberal & most of the comments make light of this wonderful administration ever doing so dasterdly a deed. Well I say…Keep a close eye on these weasels. They are raping this country. Be vigilant.

Just heard on KLMB 540, Monroe LA that the Democrat Governor of NC has suggested that the next election be ‘suspended’ to allow Congress to focus on the national debt problems!! She further commented that the need for Congressional elections every two years should be looked into because the two year cycle ‘consumes’ the Congressman’s attention to the point of neglect of pressing issues!

He’s not paranoid at all, the UN is out to remove guns from the people of America using the small arms treaty. The UN is a behive of globalist scum bags … founded and given land in New York for the building by the biggest traitor in America the Rockefeller family. This organization uses BS resolutions to bring war to countries that do not want to do business with the New World Order.
Then they invade and let the corporations steal that countries natural resources by privatizing and taking it from the citizens of the country they invaded. The UN is the hub and strong ARM For the globalist socialist take over. They say in their own words ” no one will be armed , no countries , no individuals, just one super powerful UN military force .” They want to disarm every nation including America, go to the UN website and read what they have to say. The front of the UN building has a statue of a handgun tied in a knot, you tell me they don’t want your gun.

  • Charles Nickerson

Don’t laugh if the Un passes a resolution and the Us sings it it can take on the status of a treaty making it a binding law whick a court our own suppream court could rule over rides our Constitution it would be just the thing the Gun grabers hope for

  • http://CowboyByte DELL

If we give up our guns the un has nothing to fear. they should be kicked out of the US & send obama & the clintons with them.

  • off plum

    I agree dell !

  • Peter S. Chamberlain

Considering that, under the Constitution, treaties are part of the law of the land trumping state law and even some Acts of Congress, any treaty that touches upon prohibiting private citizens from owning firearms would be of concern if our Senate ratified it. We need to regain majority, and substantial majority, control of our Senate, something the effort to do has been eclipsed by the Presidential game to our detriment. Given the Second Amendment and the political realities of those who support and defend it–something all elected officials are sworn to do until and unless it is changed or eliminated by the Constitutional amendment process–I suspect that, like some other U. N. fantasies, it would never be ratified in the U. S. Even Democrats have to run for re-election.

The provision making treaties part of the supreme law of the land though. voted on only by the Senate and not by the House, makes sense if you confine the treaty power to its proper role in international law. A treaty with the U. N. or Iran or some postage-stamp “nation” dependent on U. S. “foreign aid” dealing with purely internal U. S. matters, to avoid a vote in the GOP-controlled House, would be an unauthorized abuse of the Treaty Clause and void, as would any Act of Congress passed to implement it. Hopefully five Justices of our Supreme Court would so rule. Where this could get dicey is one ostensibly based upon the need to control the international arms trade.

    • Paul

Well said, and factual, Peter. If the Small arms resolution is passed in the UN, the ONLY protection of our Second Amendment rights would be through FAILURE TO RATIFY by the US Senate. If they DO ratify, the US is obliged to enforce the resolution as though it was the law of the land using ALL available law enforcement resources. Remember, the biggest lie in the world, “I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.” You might be hearing that at your front door if the resolution is ratified.

      • bob velon

Very true Paul. You have to remember that MR. Obama was a Senator in Illinois and he attempted to ban all weapons in that state. His legislation was never passed. Don’t underestimate the Dictator-In-Chief to attempt to ban our weapons. He could also attempt it with an Executive Order as he has done before, but don’t forget the Dick Act of 1902 which protects our Second Amendment and that cannot be repealed.

        • C Smih-Bell

Looked it up and you are correct, as long as they honor the constitution, but that’s the rub. These idiots want to get rid of it. And what dictator worth his salt wouldn’t?

  • http://theNRA&theUN Edward Ruffin

The NRA is trying to drum up more members, but I don’t second guess their warning. I think they are right, and I still maintain my membership so I can receive the American Rifleman. However, more dogmatic Second Amendment organizations are the Gun Owners of America and the National Association for Gun Rights.

  • Dave

In response to the government and the Second Amendment, it may be a good idea for people not to speak of owning or not owning guns. That way they hae no reason to think about trying to enter you home. I never say I do or I don’t own any guns. I will say at one time I did. When I was well, I hunted a great deal and loved to target shoot with a pistol. Now I am getting up in age and my health is not great so I have no need for guns. Put that way they have no reason to feel that I do. I look a little on the bad side and often feel bad as well. Oh well, enough on that subject.

The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA don’t need the united nations! We are a self supporting nation that needs to get our house in order so we can continue to be self supporting. The U.S.A. needs to pull out of the u.n., we don’t need them! Why does all of the rest of the world holler for help when they have troubles and disasters hit them? Because we are ONE NATION UNDER GOD and we are a giving people. The religious morals and standards that this great nation was founded on is what keeps us a self supporting nation. Lets take care of our people of America in need, then if we have money left we can help the rest of the world. I said “THE PEOPLE IN NEED” not the ones too sorry and lazy to get up off their seats and work for a living!!

  • Maum

A little research of the author of this piece reveals that he is the deputy editorial writer for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and would appear to be, shall we say, a little left of center. Now there is a surprise! Terms like US imperialism and empire building flowed out his mouth when discussing US involvement in Iraq for example. We still have a Socialist Democrat controlled Senate so I would be real Leary of the downplay expressed by Jay Bookman. Let us not forget the attack made on our 2nd Amendment rights by Hillary’s husband Bill. When it comes to these rights, Hillary is the real rabid dog. Let us also not forget Obama’s comment that he is working “under the radar” on gun control. I suspect that this treaty is one of these prongs of under the radar. We have already seen Operation Fast and Furious.

    • Randolph Miller

Good research, MAUM. If COWBOY BYTE keeps allowing leftest hacks from the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION to pen their propaganda on this page, I will delete them from my in box. We need the truth, not more Socialist lies! The NRA has protected our Second Amendment rights since the end of the Civil War and have won rulings to that effect in our courts too numerous to mention. They are true heroes of our Constitution and should be supported by every American loving citizen. For this reason the Socialist left hates them and the liberal media attacks them. Without checks and balances (like the NRA), our government easily becomes our enemy!

there have been many reports of offloading of foreign troops on u.s. soil for years. of course it is under the guise of training, which may or may not be actual. naturally one cannot expect the u.s. military to fight its own people, hence the need for foreign troops who will have no problems inasmuch as u.s. troops have no problems overseas. the u.s. even has agreements with neighboring canada already in place to help if the u.s. is overwhelmed by some “civil” incident. this agreement shows the pattern right out in the open. prudence demands that if you’re overextending your armed forces all over the world you need something back home in case something happens there (40,000 troops assigned to the u.s.). the game plan is always a trojan horse… to look legit when in fact it is anything but legit. sometimes it is legitimate so one cannot be crazily paranoid, but i don’t think the nra is paranoid at all. clearly there is no need for foreign troops on u.s. soil as we have a large enough military industrial complex to support a large military presence in our land. all we need do is bring our military home from all over the world to the extent they don’t need to be there (germany, north korea, et al.). that won’t happen of course because it doesn’t fit the plan. there is always a plan. expect what they’re planning for to occur in extreme towards the last half of this decade (2015-2020) based on the planning preparations that have gone on and continue to progress. it could be earlier but these things take time when impacting hundreds of millions of people. if there is one thing that can’t be hidden for long is behavior and actions, even with denial and deception chaff being launched. why do you think they want to shut down the internet and interfere with mobile communications when something happens? when you contain information that is not convenient for your plans then you maintain control. and it is alllllll about control as the autopsy will reveal.

This type of article always reminds me of an old acquaintance that comes to mind that went back to my high schools days. Ever since I could remember this moron was against self defense and firearms. He would never tire of attacking verbally anyone for their firearms ownership…years and years and years this went on. Came the night, late, across the large parking lot of the apartment buildings we lived I saw him in the distance engaged in what looked like a normal conversation. Entering my apartment not two minutes went by an of a sudden there came a great pounding on my door. It was this idiot moron, he had just been mugged and robbed and he was demanding I get my firearms and help him chase down his robbers….boy, did he get mad when I told him what he could do to himself…to this day he no longer talks to me. Hell, I wish it could have always been that way.

As for Hillary, tell her to go do a Monica to her husband, at least that way her mouth will be full and she will not be able to talk.

hmmmmm; was in Caracas when guns were outlawed; last time I looked the average number of murders in that city was 44 per WEEK END which makes Kabul a lot safer place to be and most of the murders were by firearms which only criminals possess; actually have had to use a firearm in self defense to protect my family and stay alive; police help??? the intruder was in my home!…….phone?; he/them were about /10th of a second from me and am glad we have the second amendment; need to urgently get out of the farce called the U.N.

Look at what the skunk in our White House has done already! The NRA is not always right, BUT, one cannot be two careful when dealing with skunks. I stand with the NRA.

If the NRA and Wayne LaPierre put more time (and money) into protecting OUR GUN RIGHTS and stop SUPPORTING and ENDORSING HARRY REID (You all know him – the malignant dwarf who is the (alleged) Senate Majority leader – Dumbocrap from Nevada) I might put more credence to what they have to say.
Until then, I will continue to shred all of the NRA propaganda and mail it back to them with explicit instructions as to where to put it.

  • Rambo

When there are people like obama, clinton, soros, holder, reid, pelosi and others with the level of mentality they have and their constant usurping of the Constitution, chicago politics, cronyism, and plain illegal acts, a nything can happen. Be thankful we have NRA and Wayne LaPierre to fight for us. And anybody who doesn’t believe the present administration is out to disarm the citizens of the USA and do away with the 2nd Amendment, well, all I can say is get your head out of your ASS!!!!!!!!!

Look at at what the Liberals did to the 1st Amendment. It says Congress (The Government) Shall make No law respecting an establishment of Religion (A State run Religion/demonination), or prohibiting the Free Excercise thereof, nor shall they abridge the freedom of Speech (people speaking out for or against issues, including their faith) nor sahll the Government prohibit the people to peaceably assemble. What is the most common establishment clause used today? Seperation of Church and State, which is not mentioned anywhere in the 1st amendment. People have the right to speak their faith anywhere. The Government is suppose to stay out of the way. This is not happening and most of our citizens believe that it is the right of the Government to allow or not allow anyone to speak about God/Christ in public. It will not take much longer before the majority of our citizens will take the side of the Government to keep on eliminating the rights of the citizen to bear arms or regulate more unlawful laws causing gun owners to give up their guns. When the Government has finished taking away our 1st amendment and 2nd amendment rights, we will be at the mercy of the government, and that my friends will be the end of our freedoms.

  • Mike

Butch Clinton, Obama and all other “anti-gun” nut cases will never stop trying to remove privately held firearms from the American citizenry; our constitution be damned.

My guns will not be taken from me. However, I may have to call the police to report a break-in. “Gee Mr. Policeman, when I got home from work I noticed my house had been broken into and all my guns were stolen”.

    • Chris

Brilliant, but in a situation like this they would probably tear your house apart searching for “evidence” to make sure they were really stolen. Guess we’ll need hidden vaults to hide our guns after they’ve been ‘stolen’!

  • Harold Lee

So are some of the origins of Terrorist activities possibly located in D.C. ? Who sold weapons to the Mexican gangs, the ATF and Mr. Holder. ? I guess this is the fault of U.S. Gun Manfacturers and the stores that sold guns and U.S. gun owners ? Who is denying everthing, who is stonewalling Senators trying to get additional information ? We had a Border patrol agent that died due to one of these guns, and how many mexicans have died unnecessarilybecause of this ? How much did this further endanger the people in Mexico and American citizens who live close to the border. This is “really” what we and the Mexican people needed, better armed mexican gangs, while our leaders try to disarm us ? For people living on the border a bazooka should be legal after this. With leadership like ours, who needs enemies ? The governmennt is not going to close or adequately protect our borders,or protect citizens along the border. Select enforcement of laws. So they provide arms to the mexican gangs ?? These are the people elected and PAID to represent and protect us. Some people in our government fired, many more should face criminal charges for this( Obama, Eric Holder, ATF) ? It’s time for someone to come clean. Remember this in 2012, the “current U.S. government” is involved in improving arms for the Mexican gangs that smuggle drugs to the U.S. This is REAL leadership, this is ” change you can believe in” !

    • Chris

There are a lot more gun owners in this country than they realize. Do they think the US Military, as a whole, will go along with violating the Constitution and moving against citizens?! People like Bookman can poke fun at the NRA and anyone who supports them in any way, but it is people like us that will be the last line of defense against a tyrannical government, if this scenario were to happen. I hit the local range once a month, and I certainly will not miss!!!

    • Tracy

Going door to door to collect guns is just a ploy that the NRA has used for many years to scare people like you.
While I was circulating an NRA petition about 25yrs ago, a police officer told me that there is no way door to door collection would ever happen. There was no way he would do it and would quit his job first. There are an estimated 800 million guns in america. To think that door to door collection would ever happen is ridiculous. Civil war, yes! Revolution, yes! Anarchy, yes! But very few, if any, LEOs are going to commit suicide by trying to “collect” over 800 million guns, mostly from law abiding citizens.

As Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy once said,
“You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.”

There are real concerns about the upholding the 2nd Amendment, but mass gun confiscation is not one of them. If Obama or someone else tried it, it would be to collapse the country and not realistically disarm the country. It can’t happen. There is not enough willing LEOs. And if UN troops were allowed to invade America, well it would be all over anyway…….wouldn’t it?

So go ahead and call me stupid or tell me to wake up. I don’t care. I’m just being realistic.

      • mike

I hope you are right and you just may be!!! However; dont forget about the stupidity of what some people will do! I want to remind you of gun turn ins that happen even here in the US. You may not do this but can you trust your family members??? Hey kids, Want to get some free Brit Speers ticket??? Are they trained good enough to not do this or keep their mouth shut if a doctor asks them if there are any guns in the house???
Older cops or cops that were in the military may not do this but would they help stop it? Or what about some of the younger cops or the bad cops??? You know the ones! The ones educated in the last few years or the bully cops and you know they are out there!! Most are good but it only takes a couple!

  • Don Downs

No Wayne is not off the deep end. The NRA is basically the only organization that is standing up for our right to keep and bear arms. He along with all the rest of us should be very concerned that once again it appears we have a federal government that is not in touch with any of us.

Can you imagine signing a treaty with the UN to give up our right to bear arms? The NRA has to keep fighting along with all the rest of us.

  • William A Yon

I thought this blog was credible. After reading this garbage I have changed my mind. Obviously Wayne called the wrong number when he got ( whoever) you are. Seems you haven’t been keeping up with current news as pertains to the attack on our 2nd Amendment. I want be reading your attempts at (sick) comedy in the future.

  • Daniel G

I’m glad I’m not worried about anyone taking our guns away. It’s just not gonna happen in this country. I don’t care where it has happened we are not them. Everyone has been worried about this for years and nothing. It’s all good. Guns are our culture and it ain’t changin.

  • Chris

I honestly do not understand why they have anything from Bookman on this website! He is a progressive, doesn’t give a damn about individual freedoms, and certainly would never understand or appreciate any way of life outside of a liberal, crime ridden, concrete jungle! He has no credibility on such topics. I would be surprised if he could properly and safely handle and shoot any gun!!

  • Jimbolya

The NRA may have many faults, which I don’t care for, however, how stupid of this jerk Cowboy editor! If you don’t think the Democratic controlled Senate would ratify this Treaty, you deserve to loose your guns and freedom!

    • Chris

he is not a Cowboy editor. This is an article from his blog. He is a liberal and I doubt has ever owned a gun. He uses his blog as a means of self-importance. He is basically doing what he accuses LaPierre and the NRA of, sensationalism.

Keep UN troops out of America in the case of civil unrest , keep Obama from declaring martial law……. join OATH KEEPERS…. UPHOLD YOUR OATH TO THE CONSTITUTION!

  • Larry E

Our Glorious Leader has NO respect for the Constitution or the vast majority of the American people. If the UN passes their gun control edict, which would potentially do far more than make sure that terrorists don’t get guns, Ozero might well issue an executive order requiring compliance with it which would have the force of law until and unless the Supreme Court chucked it out. Remember that his head of Homeland Security thinks that veterans, evangelical Christians (but not Mslms of any kind), people who might have an NRA or Gadsden flag decal on their vehicle, and certain others who probably don’t support her boss are potential terrorists. See also various bills promoted in Congress by people like Boxer, Feinstein, Schumer, and Lautenberg which would give the Attorney General the authority to declare someone a potential terrorist with no ability for those listed to fight it in court effectively.

I don’t trust the UN at all, and I trust Ozero and his “transparent” administration and the Demorats even less.

Want to have some fun??? Find someones car that you know is a lib and[without being seen] put a NRA, or some other pro gun sticker on the bumper. I know!! Bad boy!! Just wanted to bring a smile to some faces!!

This is not being radical, it is just studying history. first thing they do before taking the country is disarming them.get us some leadership put in place that will back the people

  • John

I get the same standard mail from the NRA. I am a life endowment member. I admit Wayne might seem a bit extreme to some, but remember that Obama and Hillary are both alinskyites. The recent fallout from the OPERATION FAST AND FURIOUS fiasco tells you that there is nothing the lefties will not do to disarm the law abiding American populace. Paranoid ? Perhaps. But as my old psychology professor used to say, ” Just because you are paranoid does not mean that they are not after you. ” Think about it. The freedoms you lose may be your own.

  • The Patriot

I believe the statement about the senate approving a treaty making it supersede the law of the land being untrue when it comes to the 2nd amendment. The reason for this is the wording of the 2nd amendment itself. The senate as part of congress is prohibited from enacting any law infringing on our right to keep and bear arms. The 2nd amendment is Part Of the Constitution, not a law made by congress which could be superseded by a treaty and would if possible thereby nullify a portion of the constitution. Therefore, congress (the senate) is prohibited by the constitution from approving a treaty which would in any way change our constitution. Otherwise, Obummer could get one of his buddies in Kenya to propose a treaty setting aside any portion of our constitution he desired, and if the senate approved it, we would soon find ourselves without a constitution. Well now, we almost have that with this lawless “bastard” President anyway.

I suggest you read Wayne’s ” The Global War On Your Guns” and learn how this could all be done through the means of a U.N. gun ban treaty. Educate yourself my friend, before you go talking shit…

  • Marty

I feel that i must come to the defense of the NRA by telling you a true story. Happened in NYC. I know this because I did 23 years in the NYPD. The FBI and the NYPD have a unit called the Joint Bank Robbery Task Force. Seens that a confidental informant refered to as a “CI”, knew about a bunch of guys who wanted to rob a bank. This group did all their due diligence. The CI (commonly called a rat) informed, for money, on the bank robbers. On the day of the robbery all the good guys were waiting. Problem was that the bad guys partied hard the night before. They were stoned. The handler of the rat called said rat and wanted to know what was going on. The rat told the handler that they were all stoned, unable to move. The rat was instructed to put them in a car and drive them to the bank. well they were all arrested and charged with the attempted bank robbery. You see because with NYPD they would have had to “in fact” commit the crime. But with the FBI they only need intent. Hey people, do not trust the government, they do not want you armed.

  • Tracy

Alot of what the NRA does these days is suspect. Like supporting and endorsing pro-gun incumbent Democrats in the last election instead of pro-gun Republicans, for instance. (never expect a Dem to keep his word on gun rights)
There is no arguing that the NRA is important and has been the leader in the fight for the 2nd Amendment over the years. But, especially, after the last elections, I now look to other gun rights organizations like GOA and others to do the right thing and tell it like it is, with no other agenda except the 2nd Amendment.
That may be the very reason the NRA is doing as the blog suggests. I have heard of many that baled on them in the last two years. Paranoia fundraising. It is a mainstay for the NRA……..

    • Observer 1

@Tracy..Yup, I agree with all you say, but Wayne La Pierre is and always has been a true champion of the second amendment..His book “The Global War On Your Guns” is a really great book and a must read for all who are concerned about their right to keep and bear arms. There are truly many people/organizations who spend their every waking moments thinking of ways to get America’s guns.

How quickly some forget. Remember when California required all owners of AK47’s to register them with the Government but promised they wouldn’t confiscate them? Well, they lied, that’s exactly what they did. The State of California ordered everyone on the ‘LIST’ to turn over their guns, AK’s to the ‘State’. The IGNORANCE of ‘Cowboy-byte’ of the 2nd Amendment issue in the article is enough for me to ride off into the sunset and ‘Cowboy-byte(me) can high-tail it back to brokeback mountain!!!!!!!

  • catman

I am a Life Member (Patron) of the NRA and have been for many years. Wayne LaPierre and the entire staff of the NRA are some of the hardest working people I have ever had contact with. They keep up with the congressional and senatorial BS in a manner that would boggle your mind. If you have a question regarding a rumored or real bill up for debate/vote, you need only call the NRA-ILA office and they will give the straight scoop on that particular bill.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. LaPierre and he is an honest and passionate person about our second amendment rights. He has devoted the majority of his adult life to this calling.
In truth, without the NRA, you would not own a gun. We would be like England and Australia.
Thanks but no thanks. I’ll keep my guns, my freedom and what little money I have. obummer can keep the change!!!

Jay Bookman the author of this LIE is obviously PSYCHOTIC!!! He MUST be put on anti-psychotic medicaton and locked up in a psychiatric hospital. NOW

    CowboyByte Staff,

Did y’all throw this naysaying, liberal screed into the mix just to let your readers have a glimpse or taste of what the “other side” has to say about the NRA, LaPierre, and 2nd-Amendment rights, in general?

Although I went ahead and read the article anyway, I can tell you straight up that I knew pretty much I all I needed to know when I ended up at the Atlanta “Urinal” and “Constipation” website!

The AJC’s liberal, progessive worldview is pretty much anethema to conservatives of just about every stripe! … and, I would have thought it was to the CowboyByte Staff, as well!!

Now that said, I must confess that it was with considerable regret that I cancelled my NRA membership when LaPierre and company sought to desert their other organizational colleagues on the issue of FIRST-Amendment rights by cutting a separate deal with the Democrat-controlled Senate in effort to secure special exemption from proposed political campaign contribution dislosures.

And that’s why I am now a proud member of Gun Owners of America, instead!

  • Kenneth Lee

Don’t be so quick to condemn the NRA. The demorat party has started the wheel in motion for the united nuts to become the governmental body of the USA. Don’t say it won’t happen. We said 9/11 couldn’t happen either.

  • ed

where there is smoke , there is most likely fire. I prefer the NRA to be extream to counter the extream on the other side. Some can’t even buy a gun now because of any history of depression any time in their life. What about those who are drunks and use drugs? Those are more likely to use a gun in a wrong way than those with depression. The NRA wrongly supported those laws though. All because of one or two evil people who used guns to murder and who also may have had a history of any kind with any mental illness. Thise that use drugs and are drunks are more likely to uses guns wrongfully than those with depression.

because of this article and this attack on the NRA , I am removing this news service from my list of sources. Who will join me?

I am considering it. Let’s see if this little Lord Fauntleroy changes his tune.

I get too much email anyways…

Paranoia??? How bout just some good ole patriotic American intelligence? The NRA and Wayne Lapierre are STILL the only clear thinking group of Americans who fully understand the importance of the second amendment and ALSO understand that ANYTHING Mrs. Clinton is for, We’re against.

  • Tim Singleton

No, they are going to pay your ‘friends’ the local POlice to come and strip your guns from your hands at gunpoint.
If you complain, the SWAT team is going to beat the hell out of you.
If you go for your weapon they are going to execute you like the did that Marine in Arizona.

I used to be LEO. This new breed of DHS storm trooper is little more than an educated robot willing to follow any order as directed by a court of a politician.
(The exceptions to this will know they are such and will not take offense at the truth.)

  • kv

Wayne LaPierre is not paranoid nor are the other 2 million NRA members. An attempt WILL be made to disarm law abiding American gun owners but it WILL fail. It will fail by legislative process or by armed resistance.

  • ArmedandReady

YO!!! COWBOY BYTE!!!!!! BYTE ME!!!! You sound just like that idiot General George Custer. “What?!? those indians cant win!!” As a Patron Member of the NRA, I throw dispersions upon your head. How do you think that the UN cant or wont try to upend our 2nd Amend rights? Um, do you even know what you are talking about? Maybe you just dont understand….let me explain.
Step 1: the US signs the Small Arms Ban. (ostensibly to fight terrorism)
Step 2: the US Senate ratifies the international treaty.
Step 3: 2nd Amendment is dead.
Now… I hope I didnt lose you in that very convoluted procedure. Maybe I should have used smaller words….
Here’s one for you – IDIOT!!

YOu speak far too tongue in cheeky — No other Amendment is perpetually attacked again and again at one level or another and at times several levels than is our Second Amendment. I am happy that you express your confidence in the Second Amendment as do I but this is written for those of a sound mind, those who are not delusional or brainwashed by the platitudes of utopian gentleness via marxism – socialism. Our current generations are diseased in their thinking and their patriotism is twisted, damaged by a cancer that has grown over more than 50 years of socialist bromides and lies. I thank the NRA and Wayne Lapierre for their tireless and selfless work against all forces destined to damage our natural rights. I agree that both the UN and Hillery MUST BE SEVERELY dealt with! These persons must be tried and sentenced for their on-going attempts at gun bans and the stupid and unprecedented avenue by moron Hillery in her attempts via the UN to deny US citizens of their rights. The strategy is obvious and she and her husband plus Obscumbo need to be removed and tried for crimes against the Nation. The UN must pay the parking tickets it has refused to pay since the early 1960’s for illegal parking and then the building toppled to one side and set afloat in the Atlantic destined for Antarctica.

Or thinking that your government wouldnt rip you a new one if it could get away with it!!! Proof is odumbo care!!!
