EPA Ponders Expanded Regulatory Power In Name of ‘Sustainable Development’

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency wants to change how it analyzes problems and makes decisions, in a way that would give it vastly expanded power to regulate businesses, communities and ecosystems in the name of “sustainable development,” the centerpiece of a global United Nations conference slated for Rio de Janeiro next June.

The major focus of the EPA thinking is a weighty study the agency commissioned last year from the National Academies of Science. Published in August, the study, entitled “Sustainability and the U.S. EPA,” cost nearly $700,000 and involved a team of a dozen outside experts and about half as many National Academies staff.

If Obama isn’t defeated and more seats in Congress aren’t replaced with people that want to serve the American people, we’re dead in the water.           We need the following amendments to the US Constitution.
          (Not listed in any particular order)
          1. Term limits for members of Congress. The professional politician is what has produced the current mess in OUR country. Time spent as president or vice-president shall not be counted as part of the 12-year limit. Time served in the military may be counted towards step pay.
          2. Members of Congress shall have no taxpayer funded retirement system. They can contribute to Social Security just like the rest of us. Funds for current and retired members of Congress should be turned over to Social Security immediately.
          3. Feredal judges, including SCOTUS justices, should be elected by the people who will be affected by their decisions, not appointed. The process would be political either way, but with elections the people will not have to wait 20+ years to get rid of a bad judge. Elections would also eliminate or greatly reduce legislation from the bench and force judges to seriously think about their decisions.
          4. No new government agencies without the approval of a majority of the states. It is time states started taking back some of the control of OUR country.
          5. Any candidate for president or vice-president should be required to show proof of eligibility to hold that office when applying at the FEC. ONLY certified/notarized birth certificate to be accepted. Also, the candidate must allow any state election commission or state attorney general access to all birth records so states can perform their own vetting.
          6. The president shall not have the authority to instuct any law enforcement agency to NOT enforce the law.
          7. Pay raises for members of Congress shall be limited to the lesser of GDP or 2%. Pay raises for retired military, SS recipients, and others whose rate is tied to GDP shall receive a raise equal to the GREATER of GDP or 2%.
          Anyone have ideas for other amendments? Of course, we know Congress will never send these to the states. The states will have to take action by convening a Constitutional Convention. I realize a convention can open up several cans of worms, but has anyone taken a SERIOUS look at the direction we are heading in at this time?

            Forgot one amendment.
            Any proposed changes to agency regulations, including new regulations, shall require the approval of Congress before going into effect. This will reign in out of control federal agencies.

Furthermore, the corruption has gone so far that the only people attracted to political office positions are criminals. Good Lord, a congressman who serves two years in office receives his salary for life! Politicians have premium healthcare with no co-pays, deductibles or co-insurance. Politicians are able to get filthy rich due to investments based on insider trading, i.e., Nancy Pelosi.

          Michelle Obama just cost taxpayers $100,000 today because she didn’t want to wait for Obummer to depart. She took a separate flight alone. And Bo, the white house dog also takes a separate flight costing taxpayers over $100,000.00 because Muslims don’t believe that animals can travel with them. The white house babysitter for the white house dog, Bo is paid $102,000.00 per year by taxpayers. Oh yes, that is his salary!

Reagan raised taxes 11 times during his time in office, increased the Federal workforce by 60,000, largely expanded the Pentagon budget, passed the largest corporate tax in history, ran the national debt from $700 billion to $3 trillion while in office. So you see Reagan was just like ALL the rest of presidents, he just had the personality to get things covered up, just like the Contra scandal!           That’s assuming they can even read, which is doubtful if they attended public schools. The current illiteracy rate among high school graduates is 60%, according to the US Dept of Education. Some “experts” believe that is a conservative number: It could be as high as 75%.

        The government not the epa are capable of doing anything that helps the people. It is about control. The epa is supported and held hostage by all the envirmental whacco groupd that not onyl lie to get their way but also hold politicians hostage via electability to push their lies and agenda. I returned to get my masters degree and have since finished it. One course was enviromental science. The professor watned me toosed out of school for not only disagreeing with her but using other professors information on global warming to prove it was a myth. We do need to keep our rivers and such clean, but the place to start is cleaning up our cities and towns, removing trach and debree that breed infectious rodents and insects that create health problems. Actually having people relocate to rural areas out side a city will relieve congestion over crowding anf pollution by reducing the concentration probems that generate the problems. The idea of sustainable housing is a myth. We need to get housing cleaned up that is in need of repair and repalcement, not keep adding more problems simply by more junk regulations that create more problems.

          This suggestion is a little off topic but I’m gonna state it anyway.
          Anyone who has had a spouse, parent, or child murdered by an illegal immigrant who was not deported when the government had the opportunity to do so should file a wrongful death lawsuit against the government. Once enough of these lawsuits become headlines the government will enforce immigration law whether it wants to or not.

        Gather all of these wackos up, put them on a large barge (green, of course), tow them out to the middle of the Pacific (using wind power of course), then punch a bunch of LARGE holes in the bottom of the barge (done environmentally green by having woodpeckers do the punching). Of course, there isn’t much that can be done about the total pollution of the specific area where all those wackos go down, but I’m reasonably sure that the ocean will disperse it rather quickly. Much faster, in fact, than the arrival of doomsday due to global warming.

          One of the EPA rules is that they must notify a coal fired generating plant before coming to measure pollutant emissions. The notice give the facility enough time to change the coal normally used to a low sulfur coal which is more expensive.
          Off subject but I can’t use this thingy very well–get the little paper back Heaven is for-by TOD BURPO-it’s a paper back yellow in color. It’ll change your life.

The EPA is just like the unions, it was started with good intensions, but they are over stepping their bounds, and making it almost impossile for power companies, and others, to thrive. It appears to me that the EPA want to control out lives and drive up prices on everything out of the reach of the poor folks who get hurts the most. Their are many families who are living on the streets according to 60 minutes and you most likely to live on streest by depriving them of a job. That is exactly what will happen if we give hem more power. All they are anyway are Obama’s Zombies, or hinchmen, what ever you want to call them.

        Again the power lies with the States to regulate NOT with the Feds! The feds took the power from the states long ago and it’s time it came back to the states. It’s up to those in the states to oversee and enforce their own polution laws. It’s also up to the citizens to make sure their companies and other companies are not polluting. You could even have a hot line for people to call in on and leave an anonymous message, or you could even offer an award instead of giving all the power and control to DC. It would be much more cost effective than sending billions to DC that get wasted like the 700,000 that was spent on this stupid study!

          Actually, the STATES gave the powers to the Federal government in a document called the Constitution. Moreover, the STATES have not stood up for their own rights by calling the federal government to task for the assumption of more powers than granted to them. The correction for this is NOT will-nilly abolishing agencies, but calling for a Constitutional convention and restoring the powers to the STATES that have slowly been assumed by an uncontrolled federal government. The STATES have the power to do this if they just have the political will.

          Just about, if not all states have their own EPA. The federal EPA is nothing more than a political tool and should be done away with. Disputes between states can be setteled in the courts, there is no reason for the federal EPA to exist.

            Ron Paul may have a point: how would Mitt Romney as the GOP candidate for the next eight years (which is what you’d get if he wins in 2012) be better than Barack Hussein Obama for four more?

            If Ron Paul (or Gary Johnson) were to have a Ralph Nader-type effect and the Republican nominee loses in November, at least true conservatives could try for a better candidate in 2016.

            What people should start doing NOW is working itch their state legislatures to force an end to the winner-take-all allotment of electoral votes so that Ron Paul or other third-party candidate supporters could vote their conscience without fear of “throwing away” their votes.

    Agenda 21 people!!! The UN has negotiated a deal with the major countries of the world to develope a plan to regulate 1st world economies in the name of environmental protection. The plan calls for the transfere of economic production to 2nd and 3rd world countries to help them improve the living standards of these countries.

    Look up Agenda 21 on reputable websites and read what we have agreed to. Elections are coming and you need to press your representatives to answer the question “do you support Agenda 21 from the United Nations”? They may act as if they have never heard of it, and they may not have. Congress is redressing this agreement in pretty clothing to make it look as if the plan is our idea, that we are gullible enough to destroy our economy through over regulation.

    While Ron Paul makes all the right nouices when talking about the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, he is an isolationist and people need to look closely at his foreign policy. Bringing our military home and closing all our bases around the world makes good sence if yuo are planning on not being involved in world issues, or protecting our interests overseas. Isolation brought us WWI because we did not get invlolved in Europe’s issues which lead to the war. The smae can be said about the periods before every war we have been in sence WWI. We came home and ignored the world as it fell back into its old arguements. We covered our heads and thought the badguys would leave us alone. It always lead us back to war and it was always great in destruction, and cost in life and treasure as the war before.

    So again educate yourself and do not get drawn into the hipe. Read everything you can get your eyes on, and talk to other people about the issues.

        You had better look very closely at Ron Pauls age factor. He is pushing his high seventies and if elected would be 80 at the end of his first term if he even lasted that long. The office of President is a gut wrenching, nerve jangling, high stress job. Just take a look at past Presidents. They look young and robust when they come into office. Then look at them when they leave. They have aged many years. Can Ron Paul survive that kind of environment? Even obummer has shown ageing and he has only been there for 3 years. Ronald Reagan was one of our older Presidents, but he was also a health buff who knew how to take care of himself with diet and exercise as he had done for many years prior to his election.

      Ron Paul is a non interventionist not an isolationist. There are big differences. Here’s the thinking: we can’t afford so much of our military watching over other countries especially with our borders opened to all kinds of crime. Our debt is way too much. We can stay where we are and collapse financially, or we can do what needs to be done to bring our debt under control. We have the technology to monitor other countries without being present on their land like “Occupiers”.

      How long? Oh, most estimates say for several centuries. But by the middle of this century we will no longer be confined to this Earth. The cost of going into space has already dropped from $20 Million to $200,000 and in another 20 years will be about the same as a flight across the ocean. About then we will have a Space Elevator. (A satellite 22,000 miles up stays in the same place all the time–think satellite TV–so we should be able to run a cable from here to there and take a bus-sized elevator into space.) Once above the Earth we can use aluminum foil for sails and sunlight for wind and sail all over the Solar System. Using material from the Moon and Asteroids and moons of Jupiter and Saturn–rich in water (hydrogen and oxygen), amonia (hydrogen and nitrogen) and methane (hydrogen and carbon) the average family could build a tin can as big as a typical farm with hills, lakes, streams and weather and they could have solar energy 24 / 7.

      So I wouldn’t worry too much if I were you. By the end of this century it will be a very different world.

      Why worry about sustainable development? I am 65 years old. I am not going to be around long enough to need “sustainability”. Mother Nature will take care of itself. The earth has been here for 6 billion years. It will be around for 6 billion more. Will you? It has survived floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, fire, wind, hurricanes, meteors, radiation, warm, cold, dry, wet, volcanoes…the list is endless. Use common sense. This is just a ploy to get more money and resources to continue the onslaught. The EPA does not need anymore power. You can’t fool Mother nature.

However, the UN Agenda 21, where this use of the term comes from, defines “sustainable” as among other things “incompatible with private property”.     Hello! The United Nations? Where did they come from? I remember it was formed in the aftermath of the second World War. The United Nations never was any kind of power, it was simply symbolic. I can see the future; with the pathetic leadership of our country, it is probable, the United Nations leadership will take over. There was talk, the United States of America would soon be a third world nation, I wonder if we are not already there! Our United States of America has lost it’s place in the world!     The EPA is a double edged sword with rust on both sides. While I don’t want them allowing aerosoled moose turds into our air, I still wish they weren’t being used as a dangerous political pawn. Perfect example: When the PSAs come out about not drilling in Alaska, they show caribou and elk and moose and beautiful little fox and baby otter and small kittens and puppies in front of a beautifully pristine snowcapped mountain range next to a burbling perfect stream, and then the narrator says (I’m paraphrasing)”Big oil wants to chop up all of our caribou and elk and moose and fox and baby otter and small kittens and puppies and grind their bones just to get their precious oil, which will destroy all their homes!” And then I saw the ACTUAL drilling site. It is MANY MANY MANY square miles of barren rock with no vegetation, wildlife, and from the looks of it possibly a lack of oxygen. Yeah. Please don’t kill all the wasteland and pet rocks.     Both the sun and earth are power generators. Also both of these regenerate. Oil, gas, etc. are like wine & spirits, they cure over time until at the right ripeness. Also, watch the financial information, a tremendous amount of oil, gas, natural gas, etc. has been and is constantly discovered…what major media talks about is just the tip of the ice berg. Then there is wind, geothermal, solar, magnetic, coal, etc., etc., etc..

    There is no natural shortage of energy for the world. The shortages that occur are created deliberately for profit. Most US petroleum resources are either capped off or shipped overseas. Much of that shipped overseas is sold back to the US as foreign crude…. We have mega natural gas in this country, but it is hardly utilized. Electric cars have been suppressed several times. Government is in bed with big oil/utilities and are raping the US citizens and have been doing so for decades. Government (both domestic & world) wanted a bigger piece of the pie so they created the EPA/climate change scams.

Al Gore was a big invester in this scheme. I hope he lost lots of money in this venture. The nature of our politicians needs to change which will mean to get rid of them all and start again with part time lower paid regular people who will abide by all law that pertain to all of us with no special anything for them.       The EPA has plans to keep you from selling your home until you have made the required EPA improvements. Your home will have a license that you will have to renew every year, just like your vehicles. Like the vehicles, your home will have to re qualify for its yearly license. Some homes will be “grandfathered in” but still will not be allowed to be sold until EPA updates have been completed. Many homeowners will not be able to afford these costly updates. Owners will be denied access to the investment they have made in their homes when they are unable to afford the new EPA restrictions. You are right, the Green agenda will effect every aspect of our lives. This is but one small example…

      Clinton balanced the budget on the back of the elder Americans by cutting survices to them. I know this because I am a visisting nurse and many seniors had to be placed into nursing home because of the services cut. This action resulted in the money from Federal coffers that paid for these services were moved over to the State coffers to house them in the homes. Clinton did nothing but move the seniors around and yes, kill some because they couldn’t handle the changes. Clinton is a dirty dog and cheater all the way around.

    Where and how has the UN seemingly become a powerful political organization that assumes the right to mandate international law to be enforce on the United States! Does the UN now control our own government agencies and from where does that power emanate.

    Are we a Sovereign Nation or have we become “Subjects of the UN” and under their Agenda 21…..The UN consists of countries that are known human-rights-abusers, world criminals, dictators, despots, and mass murderers, all of which hold an enthusiastic hatred for our country. Even though we send money to the majority of these nations, from the darker side of the world, we are despised by them. The majority of these communists dictatorships cast their votes in the UN against us. Our enemies in the UN have many similarities. Not one of these countries have “free and prosperous” populations. Most of the countries to benefit from the redistribution of first-world wealth would be the communist regimes that enslave, starve and suppress their people.

    As much as we could delve into the reasons why we are a very prosperous nation while other nations are not, the interest is about the usurping of power by the UN. In the past the UN was considered a useless, greedy and lazy bunch of international cretins that came here as representatives to live-large on American taxpayers dollars. This organization was a “joke” by all standards, with a failed records of attempted rescues and peacekeeping efforts. The people targeted by their efforts usually were worse off, after UN occupation and intervention.

    Now, there seems to have been an inexplicable power assumed by the UN. How does the UN authorize an out of control , tyrannical, omnipotent, governmental agency, to enforce their Agenda 21… Has the obama regime joined forces with his newly-made friends in the UN, and is he using them as another tool to advance his agenda…..the defeat and destruction of countries with highly productive populations of European-ancestry! The fact is that the”free and prosperous” countries are those that were settled and governed by White Europeans. ..and who does obama admit that he hates…. Did obama admit his hatred of Whites because there has never been a “free and prosperous” country run by black men (including the United States.) I find that there are obvious reasons for the success of White populations that obama needs to embrace and try to emulate rather than hate.

    The redistribution of world wealth is from the productive to the non-productive and we need no education on what countries are ready to steal the wealth produced by others. Who has involved the UN in the process of redistributing wealth so that the standard of living for everyone in the world would be the same, regardless of productivity. Face it Americans, the UN wants your future to end up with you living somewhere between the mud huts of the Africas and a very nice home in the suburbs of America. It all depends on how hard “you” work to raise the standard of living “for the world” (instead of for your own family.)

    EPA and the UN must be eliminated, so must the persons or entity that has given/lent them the powers they are yielding and are planning to yield without restraint.

      The United Nations is obsolete and usustainable. They failed their sole mission of world peace after 65 years of supposedly trying. Americans are crazy to keep giving them billions of dollars every year. This money is never repaid as its called a “membership fee.” Well…cancel this membership pronto. Everything they do can be done over the updated networks of communication. They get more than our tax base income and this is the reason … the sole reason for our debt. The UN doesn’t have to account for how the money is spent nor do they have to repay any of it. Recently it was found out that money given for fertilizer was ultimately used to kill our American soldiers in Pakistan and Afighanistan. Its the UN that is unsustainable and they are trying to get a toe hold on our very homes and towns…this is so they can justify their existence and send NATO soldiers into our neighborhoods…This is why France pulled out of NATO and soon will likely pull out of the UN.

A couple of years ago in Colorado, we had a major snow storm leaving an average of 4 feet of snow burying the cows up to their necks. They couldn’t move to find food and were unable to graze. Our military voluntarily (on their own time without pay) flew over the cows dropping food for them. A local Denver, Colorado radio station, 103.5 the Fox, KRFX called PETA on the air asking for assistance to save these cows. After being transferred and the ‘buck’ being passed several times, they were told, and I quote “no, we won’t help because the cows will eventually end up on somebody’s plate for dinner.” The EPA’s staff would step over a dying human being to save a dog. The EPA needs a reality check on a personal level., i.e., what if the bug you’re trying to save bit your child and it’s venom killed your child? Would you still save it? The EPA is willing to let 20,000 jobs (appx 100,000 people) go hungry to save a bug?

    I like clean air to breath and clean water to drink as much as anyone. I like the outdoors too. I have grandkids that I care about and want them to inherit a decent environment. That said, I also support a vibrant, growing economy that provides real opportunities for everyone. That economy is dependent on abundant, affordable energy. Our government has failed the American people on the energy issue for over 35 years now, and Obama’s policies along with our current EPA are the worst ever. The truth is that we could have that abundant, far cleaner energy supply at lower cost than we have today and with no new technology required. Furthermore, we could eliminate our dependence on foreign oil in the process. It requires embracing some policy directions that many people have irrationally opposed, but real progress usually requires compromise. It requires we drill and produce all of the domestic oil and natural gas that we can. It requires embracing CNG as a transportation fuel alternative (burns 65% cleaner than gasoline and is abundant). It may require liquefying coal to make a diesel fuel substitute, and it requires more nuclear power plant development (in safe locations) because its the least expensive way of generating large volumes of very affordable electricity. Wind, solar, ethanol, and electric cars are not going to get us where we need to go.

But these days US Industry does a pretty good job in putting out as best the can, products that are friendly to our enviroment. There is so many inovations since the Industrial Revolution. For example no lead in paint and very little use of mercury in modern products. We cant not forget recyling in most renewable products.

    I didn’t read all of the comments, but the ones I did are accurate.
    I feel that if we realized the power and authority that the County Sheriff has we still have a chance to take our country back. Most of the people running will just be another puppet, and cave in to the whims of the liberals. I would encourage each of you to go get the book by Sheriff Richard Mack “County Sheriff America’s Last Hope.” Read it and get it to anyone who is a Sheriff at this time or who will be running for the spot. This is really important, D.C. will not be the answer as how do you expect them to fix what they have intentionally broken. There is too much corruption to figure out who will cave and who won’t.
    Please get the book and hold your Sheriff, city and county commissioners and police officers accountable for the oath they took when they started their respective careers.
    God bless America if we wake up and do something, perhaps He will.

    I wrote to this blog last night but did not see it posted??? Agenda 21 is a real program developed by the UN and excepted by our government as a format for “sustainable developement”. In this plan the 1st world economies will volunteerily reduce the economies tranfering work to 2nd and 3rd world economies tobring up their standard of living. The program also locks up wilderness in the United States thereby not allowing us to exploit our own resources. The US government has agreed to transfere large amounts of our money into the World Trading Organization and World Bank to help finance the developement of 2nd and 3rd world countries. The US government has agreed to allow the steady decline of our standard of living in order to bring up other economies and bring us in line with other standards of living outside our country.

    So remember you vote for these representatives and they vote for bills you support, and if that is not exactly true you should vote out these people and we can get back to making America great again.

    Just like every other political movement in recent history, the EPA’s original intent was honorable and represented good intentions. Eventually, the original intent gets twisted and self-serving for those who run it. The EPA, today is nothing more than a politically imposed fly that won’t get off your burger at a picnic no matter how many times you try to shoo it away. The EPA needs to be exterminated. They do nothing more than help destroy America’s economy. Right now they are willing to stop 20,000 jobs (union jobs to boot) knowing that Canada will give the oil to CHINA!!! in order to do what??? prevent the killing of a bug?? I’d really like to know what their reason is for opposing the Keystone Pipeline. The liberal media paid for by George Soros won’t tell us why. Uhgg! I just want America back. I’m so done with Obama trying to collapse our country.

    Whoa… EPA management (Administrator Lisa P. Jackson) is thinking that expanded government regulations and bureaucracy will INCREASE ‘Sustainable Development’. (Who elected her)? Is she making some kind of oxymoron statement (or other variety of moron)? Think…think…think, oh yea, she must be referring to increase sustainable development of the EPA (read: my agency is bigger than your agency).

    What will it take to awaken Americans to just what these originations really are and who came up with the idea of creating them.
    Government keeps coming up with new agency’s to fleecing your pockets and creating newer ways to controlling the population along the way.
    We have allowed originations like the EPA to regulating us right out of the job market and while this takes place junk coming from non regulated countries is being imported.
    Instead of government working for the people we’ve allowed them to find ways to further control the population.
    The EPA just like the UN and FADA started with one purpose and that was for the protecting the population from ones willing to endanger the population for quick profit but now are the agencies of the profiteers and need to be abolished.

    All part of Agenda 21! Look it up. Reasearch on this will answer many questions about current politics. Both Dems and Rep have supported this UN project. What to eat, what not to eat (reduction beef consumption), grazing cattle, locating businesses, where citizens should live, wealth redistribution, eliminating current energy infrastructure for renewable energy, transportation, off-limit zones to humans for earth’s protection. Once you see the agenda of this program, clarity on the government’s agenda will be achieved. To save this country-Ron Paul is beginning to look not so crazy after all. I am starting to believe he may have just known all along what citizens should have.

      The only way to eliminate the size of government and the out of control corruption in Washington is to “take it out of the loop.”

      The country needs to tell Washington to “take a hike,” ignore it, and take away their access to the wealth of the nation. No more money should be sent to Washington. Suspend their ability to “tax and spend” the country into oblivion. The people can ignore the Feds and the States can reclaim all the powers usurped by them. It is the only hope Americans have to take back their country.

      The only reason the Washington government is “all powerful” is because they have “all the money.” It is always “about the money and the power it can buy.” Combine that kind of power with a Marxist agenda and put the communists in control of our government and we have a real problem. That is what has happened because we Americans have been asleep and our lives too comfortable. This needs to be corrected and a Constitutional government put in place of our current communist regime. It will take a lot of “reorganization” but that is preferable to the lose of our sovereign Nation and freedom. The Governors are the “key” and have the ability to save the Republic.

    EPA has too much power!! They are goining to shut down every coal fired power plant in America. Then we will see how many unemployeed eletctric worker we have added to roles. They have already close down 5 plants in California!! They want Arizonia to supply more to them!! But Obama will shut all them down next. We will have to go back to chopping wood for heat and buying oil lamps to see by because you will not be able to afford your elecric bills any longer!!
    No one will have a job any more because not one business will have any electicity!!
