Iran oil sanctions spark war of words between Tehran and Washington

Print Friendly

Tehran on Monday escalated its threats against the west after Europe struck at the Islamic republic’s lifeblood by agreeing to impose an oil embargo on it.

Tehran threatened to respond by closing the strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of global oil supplies pass, while a senior US official vowed that the west could use force to keep the route open.

The decision by EU foreign ministers in Brussels raised the stakes dramatically in the standoff between Iran and the west over Iran’s nuclear programme.

“If any disruption happens regarding the sale of Iranian oil, the strait of Hormuz will definitely be closed,” warned Mohammad Kossari, deputy head of the Iranian parliament’s foreign affairs and national security committee. Closing the strait would choke off global oil supplies and send international tensions soaring.

Ivo Daalder, the US ambassador to Nato in Brussels, pledged that Washington and its allies would keep the waterway open to international shipping and the oil business.

    “…Uh-Oh…!!! “

    • American

I seen this on another blog,, and i stand by it 100%….
This President does not represent anything me and my family stand for. He is anti-American, he exports our jobs and allows ILLEGALS to take those that are available, he sends OUR money to other countries to boost their economies, he sleeps with terrorists, he sues states for upholding laws that are on the books that he does not deem necessary, he disrespects the flag, national monuments and the military, he has de-friended one of our greatest allies in Israel, he forces the country to accept his biased Obamacare and then gives passes to corporations who either donate to his campaign or that hire ILLEGALS, he regulates industry to the point of destruction, ad infinitum…. and then he blames everything else for his failure.
This traitor quit representing the Great United States of America the day he started appologizing for her greatness. He has done nothing but trample our country, our flag, our history, and our Constitution all of his life, while living off our our tax dollars. It isn’t the color of the skin, it is the lack of Red, White and Blue!

It looks to me that they have a hard time growing food over there. If they want to shut it down, quit exporting food over, and let them eat sand sandwiches and camel piss for a while.

Even we give exemptions for humanitarian purposes.

      • ldmstr

If we go towar in the Middle East will we give exemptions to the Iranians as we bomb them into the stone age??? Giving exemptions only extends the time where we will have to fight Iran. Rmember all the exemptions we gave Sadam and we still had to go to war to end his stupidity.

Years of tacit approval, ie doing little more than saber rattling over their sponsoring terror attacks, and now, suddenly we join in to try to correct things in a big way. Iran has become accustomed to their current activities as being a part of their territory, much like the welfare druggie is proprietary towards ” his check” that he blows on crack during the first 4 days of the month and then scrapes by with grifting, begging, and asset redisribution for the rest of the month. Both will scream bloody murder and act imposed upon at any attempt to crank back the limits.
    Sun Tzu would not approve.

    • Martin Ridens

Its pretty hard for someone to get any kind of substantial assistance like food stamps unless there are children in the household. Its even harder to get cash, and if you don’t live up to the work requirements they cut you off pretty quick. I think the crack heads skip that welfare part and go straight to the grifting, begging, and stealing.

  • kenny1801

Just NUKE the SOBS and get it over with!!..All these MUSLIM BAST%RDS want it to DO is DOMINATE the WORLD!!!

    • Martin Ridens

Wow, I’m all for a strong US, but dominate the world so they can’t dominate the world sounds a little hypocritical to me. I love Americans and have great faith in them, but not so much for our politicians.

      • Larry N

For years we have followed a policy of “measured response” what I like to call “tit for tat warfare”, you blow up my embassy and I blow up your factory. It doesn’t work, it only guarantees endless warfare. If you want peace then you have to be willing to fight and whats more the enemy has to know you will fight and fight ruthlessly to win. You can not negotiate with religious extremist who’s only goal is your destruction and is willing to see a large portion of his own killed to achieve his ends. We need to attack Iran immediately with everything available and leave them incapable of attacking anyone else for a very long time with no aid or concern for them afterward otherwise we will continue to be the target of every nation on the earth that sees weakness in us. This may be seen as some to be barbaric and not up to the noble ideals this country espouses but when dealing with barbarians noble ideals will only get you killed.

        • kenny1801

          you GOT THAT RIGHT, Larry!!!!!

  • http://alot richard bensen

Iran has always been the real threat. Why haven’t we already dealt with this goat society? We should have finished their ambitious career after Embassy was overrun and our people held as hostages. Now we are attempting to show our backbone when we have to pay so much for fuel.In my opinion we always play the diplomatic game for far too long, allowing these tyrants to grow and become a legend in their own mind. When will we ever learn….I guess never…Does North Korea come to mind?……mmmmmm

    • Martin Ridens

We’ve been dealing with them for a long time.

“They haven’t forgotten 1953. We went into Iran and overthrew their government. Threw out an elected leader. They were practicing Democracy, but we didn’t like him because he didn’t want to give the oil benefits to the British and the Americans. He wanted to keep the benefits for the Iranians. So we overthrew him, Mosaddeq, and put in the Shah, who was there for 26 years and he was a ruthless dictator,” Ron Paul reminded voters.

“What does that do? That starts and stimulates radicalism, and that’s how radical Islam got going in Iran until you had the Mullahs take over in 1979,” he said.

And after that, we didn’t like the Mullah’s very much so we supported Saddam Hussein by giving him conventional and chemical weapons so he could do our dirty work for us.

Yeah, we’ve been dealing with Iran for a long time.

      • CAllenDoudna

I don’t recall us invading Iran in 1953. How many troops did we land? How many casualties did we suffer? How many of our planes were shot down? How many of our men were POWs? I find absolutly no record of an Iranian-American War in any history book nor are there any newspaper headlines from 1953 reporting on our invasion of Iran.

What happenned was a CIA agent ran out into the street shouting pro-Shah slogans. The Iranian people then came out and started shouting, too. We may have inspired the coup to begin with, but it was the Iranian people themselves who re-installed the Shah.

        • Martin Ridens
          • CAllenDoudna

Other than the number of CIA agents, this account squares with the one I just gave you and gives no support at all to your allegation that WE invaded (“went in”) and overthrew the Iranian government and re-installed the Shah.

          • Martin Ridens

It was Ron Paul’s quote and doesn’t say we invaded Iran. It says, “We went into Iran and overthrew their government”. Do you think the CIA phoned their support in? Do you really think if the CIA hadn’t been involved the Iranians would have overthrown their own elected government? If you do then, OK. We disagree.

          • CAllenDoudna

So you just blindly accepted something Ron Paul said without bothering to check it out yourself? And then you try to split hairs by saying “we went in” is not the same thing as “we invaded”? (In the normal use of the English language the two terms are synonimous.) And you overlook a very fundamental fact: How could this have been accomplished without considerable support among the population?

      • CAllenDoudna

Yeah, we gave Saddam Hussein a few weapons–but the overwhelming majority of his arsenal came from the Russians. The T-64 and T-72 are RUSSIAN tanks, not American. The MiGs are RUSSIAN aircraft, not American. The AK-47 is a RUSSIAN assault rifle, not American. The Iraqi army wore RUSSIAN helmets, not American. And most of the chemicals the Iraqis used were from RUSSIA, not America and were the same ones the communist government of Viet-Nam used in Laos and the Laotians called “yellow rain”.

By the way, have you ever heard of the “Iran-Contra” scandal? You might want to google the following: “Iran-Contra”, “Silkworm Missle”, “Oliver North”. I think you will find it a major complication to your ignorance. Here’s what you will discover: We agreed to supply Ayatohlah Khomeini’s Iran with Chinese Silkworm missles (American missles might have raised questions in Congress and among the Iranian people) in exchange for Iran’s help in getting Lebanese militias to release Americans being held hostage durring the Lebanonese civil war. We then took the “derivitives” (profits) to fund the Contras in Nicaragua overthrow the pro-communist Sandinistas who had siezed power there.

Now how do these easily-verifiable facts square with your simplistic view that WE armed Iraq in its war with Iran?

    • CAllenDoudna

Having been around at the time I can tell you that the reason we did not “finish the carreer of that goat society” after they overran our Embassy was Jimmy Carter was President at the time. When Barack Obama began running for President I imeadiately recognized another Jimmy Carter. Shortly after becoming President Obama met with the other living Presidents and said he got along pretty good with Carter.

Let’s send BARRY over there to Negotiate the Oil Prob and leave him there with the rest of the NUT’S seal the Country off and for get about them let them eat there OIL.

  • Eli Jones

There is a major clash coming soon in the middle east. Israel will attack Iran’s nuke sites, that’s a given. I have a very ominous feeling that Iran may have already been to Russia’s bargain basement and may already have a nuke or two. If so, you can expect the mullahs to use them in the event of an Israeli strike and you can bet the family jewels that the Jews will unleash hell on the Persians if they use a nuke against Israel.

    • Martin Ridens

I agree with you on Israel taking care of business when the situation requires it. They’ve done it before to suspected Syrian and Iraqi nuclear programs. Israel would probably be grateful if we didn’t condemn them this time but that’s about the only help they want or need according to Netanyahu and the head of Mossad Pardo.

But, IF Iran already has a nuke AND they are as hell bent on destroying Israel and the US as some would have us believe, then why haven’t we heard a big boom? Both things can’t be true.

      • T-Texas

I have read your post ,they sound like you are either a paulbot or a fuukin lib.

        • Martin Ridens

Maybe I’m just a realist who doesn’t close his ears when he hears something he doesn’t like. And you can spell “fuckin” correctly on here without your post being removed, I think.

      • CAllenDoudna

I would prefer to do anything possible to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear bomb then debate whether or not they have one and why they haven’t used it only to at last have all my questions answered as I stand in the radioactive ashes of my hometown.

      • Larry N

If Iran has a nuke, it won’t be used against Israel first, it will be used against us first. It has been reported that they have been practicing launching missiles form cargo ships. Their first attack would be from a cargo ship just outside our territorial waters to detonate a nuke about 300 miles above Nebraska, the EMP would take out most of the electronics in the US and leaves us in a downward spiral into the stone age, then they would attack Israel.

  • Bill Mortlock

I believe Iran is the NEXT Gobi Desert. Israel will surprise attack & Iran will not be able to counter. Syria will “attempt” to intervene, but, will get it’s nose bloodied as well. Egypt & the old Libya will scream, but to no avail. Israel will show them they are slow to temper, but, mean EXACTLY what they say.

And the traitor is stopping the keystone pipeline. How much more can we take from him and the Clintons lineing there pockets at the taxpayers cost?

  • traitors in gov

    WWIII????

  • CAllenDoudna

You want to know something bizzar? Iran has to IMPORT gasoline! Iran may be the world’s second-biggest producer of crude oil, but Iran only has ONE oil refinery and so must IMPORT a third of their gasoline. Bomb that oil refinery and blocade their import of fuel and in a month the Iranians will be back to riding camels. Their grocery store shelves will be empty because there’s no fuel for the trucks to restock them.

Now that the capture of Usama Bin Ladin [not Osama Bin Ladin], is going to hit the movies at the end of the year, I wonder what is next ? Funny, how , Michael Moore doesnt have a problem with the Iranians, neither does Venezuela, Iranian Military there. Iran visits Cuba? Now I am sure that will be one of Obamas stops on his campaign trail, if Castro is a man he will keep Obama as a hostage. Go home Obama, go back to your country.

    Obama stops soldier from speaking

Sent by Retired Vice Admiral Bob Scarborough, of Arlington, Va.”I wanted to give you all some disturbing information on our wonderful president. I work with the Catch-A-Dream Foundation, which provides hunting and fishing trips to children with life-threatening illnesses. This past weekend we had our annual banquet/fundraiser event in Starkville. As a part of our program, we had scheduled Sgt 1st Class Greg Stube to come; he’s a highly decorated U.S. Army Green Beret and inspirational speaker who was severely injured while deployed overseas and didn’t have much of a chance for survival. Greg is stationed at Ft. Bragg , NC and received permission from his commanding officer to come speak at our function. Everything was on go until Obama made a policy that NO U.S. SERVICEMAN CAN SPEAK AT ANY FAITH-BASED PUBLIC EVENTS ANYMORE. Needless to say, Greg had to cancel his speaking event with us. Didn’t know if anyone else was aware of this new policy. You’re just starting to see the Obamanation. This is just how the Nazis did it in the 1930s — slowly, one step at a time. This should be forwarded to everyone regardless of party affiliation! We have lost 50% of our freedom of speech in the last 2 years. The news media is not allowed to print anything negative about this evil Obama.

Are you still going to re-elect him? Not Me!!!!!!!

Not to worry. Our illustrious community organizer, a complete finished product of affirmative action at work, will handle this like all the problems we have with our arab, muslim brothers.
He will find a way to make Americans look the fool, and then go on to appologize to them for our past evil ways. The man, Barack Hussein Obama, the President and Commander in Chief, is nothing more than a lying weasle who is out to distry us as a nation. He wants a socialist/ communist country run by him , and his union pals. He is an American mistake and that is even in question depending on where he was born. It is pathetic and we are to blame.

Let’s stop fooling ourselves. Only devastating military strike will stop Iran’s march to the nuclear weapons. And Barack Hussein Obama will just talk, but do nothing. Israeli Air Force should do the job and sooner is better. Result, that what counts, not the collateral damage. Israel should not worry, what is destroyed and how many, so called peace loving Iranians, have suffered. These piece loving Iranians tortured and mutilated our American soldiers and diplomats. Obama’s, so called high ground means nothing. He was the disaster everywhere and we all have to join together and handily defeat the cancer poisoning the air in the White House in November 2012.
