Roanoke hosts 1st Republican senate debate

Saturday afternoon was the first time Virginia Republicans got to see all four of their senate candidates on one stage during the first of a series of primary debates.

Former Senator and Governor George Allen, Delegate Bob Marshall, Pastor E.W. Jackson, and Jamie Radtke gave their takes on issues ranging from the economy to Supreme Court justices.

During the one hour debate likely Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s name wasn’t brought up until the end, when moderator and 10 On Your Side Anchor Jay Warren asked the candidates if they would endorse the former Massachusetts governor today.

While all four candidates agreed they would support Romney if he wins the nomination, none of the candidates would go as far as endorsing him.

Another issue that caught the attention of the crowd was social security, something the candidates also agreed on.
